An IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Srinagar made an emergency landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on October 22, 2025.
Incident Details
IndiGo Flight 6E-6961 was forced to make a priority landing at approximately 4:10 PM after the pilot detected a fuel leak mid-air. The pilot immediately contacted Varanasi Air Traffic Control (ATC) and requested clearance for an emergency landing, which was granted.
Passengers and Crew Safety
All 166 passengers and crew members aboard the aircraft were safely evacuated following the landing. No injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed that the situation was brought under control swiftly.
Current Status
After the emergency landing, all passengers were accommodated in the arrivals hall while the airline’s technical team conducted a thorough inspection and necessary repairs on the aircraft.
IndiGo arranged an alternate aircraft to continue the passengers’ journey to Srinagar. According to IndiGo’s official statement, the aircraft was grounded for necessary safety checks as a precautionary measure. The airline emphasized that passenger and crew safety remains their top priority.
Normal airport operations at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport have since resumed.
