Mehuk Choksi
The latest update on Mehul Choksi as of October 2025 is that a Belgian court in Antwerp has officially approved his extradition to India. The court ruled that his arrest by Belgian police on India’s request was valid. Choksi, who has been in jail in Belgium since April 11, 2025, retains the right to appeal this decision to the Belgian Supreme Court within 15 days.
India has charged him with multiple offences related to the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case involving Rs 13,000 crore, including fraud, conspiracy, and corruption. The Indian government assured Belgium that if extradited, Choksi will be held at Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai in conditions meeting European standards, with adequate facilities and no solitary confinement.
This development marks a critical step towards bringing the fugitive diamantaire back to India for trial, although his immediate return is not confirmed due to the option of appeal.
