Delhi’s Red Line Metro, one of the oldest and busiest routes connecting Rithala to Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda), recently faced significant disruptions affecting thousands of daily commuters. On October 30, 2025, a technical snag caused trains to halt, particularly at Rohini West station, where a train remained stuck for over 30 minutes, triggering frustration among passengers.
The major cause behind this disruption was identified as a technical fault impacting metro operations between key stations, including delays between Welcome and Pitampura stations. Announcements frequently warned of recurring technical faults, leaving commuters stranded during peak morning hours.
In addition to technical breakdowns, cable theft has emerged as a persistent threat to the Red Line’s smooth functioning. Since June 2024, nearly 89 incidents of cable theft impacting signaling, traction, and electrical systems have been reported. Damage to these cables leads to slowing trains and service delays as replacement occurs, usually during off-peak nighttime hours.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) apologizes for the inconvenience and is working intensely to restore and maintain normal service. Passengers are advised to consider alternative routes temporarily and expect delays while technical repairs and security measures address these issues.
Despite recent hiccups, Delhi Metro continues to be the lifeline of the national capital’s public transport network, committed to safety, punctuality, and passenger convenience. Authorities also stress that ongoing vigilance against cable theft and better infrastructure maintenance will help prevent future disruptions on this vital corridor
