Prince Andrew has recently announced that he will give up using all his royal titles and honors, including the Duke of York title. This decision was made in close consultation with King Charles and other family members. He stated that ongoing accusations against him have been a distraction from the work of the royal family. Andrew affirmed his decision to step further back from public life, following his earlier withdrawal in 2019 amid allegations related to his association with Jeffrey Epstein.
Though he will stop using titles such as Duke of York and honors like the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order and Royal Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter, he remains a prince by birthright and still holds the dukedom legally (which can only be removed by an Act of Parliament). Prince Andrew continues to deny all allegations against him. This announcement comes just before the posthumous memoir publication of Virginia Giuffre, the late accuser, and additional evidence related to their case has come to light.
Prince Andrew is expected to remain in private life, no longer performing public royal duties or using his former titles, which marks a significant fall from his previous status as a senior royal.
